May 15, 2017 Lumber producers face increasingly dangerous walk in the woods. The initial response of Canadian lumber stocks to the US Department of Commerce’s April 24 announcement on preliminary countervailing duties on imports of Canadian lumber was a relief rally. But investors face a roller-coaster ride. Canada’s softwood lumber manufacturers are a long way yet from being out of the woods in a process where the Americans still hold a trump card—possibly several.
